Canes Fall to Florida in NCAA First Round, 4-0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – 50th-rankedMiami was defeated by host-school andeighth-seeded Florida (18-5), 4-0, in the first round of the 1999 NCAADivision I Men’s Tennis Championship Sub-Regional at Linder Stadiumat RingTennis Complex on the University of Florida campus.
Trey Adcock clinched thewin the Gators with a straight set 6-4, 6-2win over the Hurricanes’ Joel Berman at No. 6 singles. Miami(10-13) wasmaking its third straight trip to NCAA postseason and 17th overallsince1977.
Florida began the matchby earning the first point with wins at Nos.1 and 2 doubles. UF’s 15th-ranked tandem of Jeff Morrison and NathanOverholser defeated UM’s Mark Arrowsmith and Jamin Thompson at No.1 toclinch the initial point.
In singles action, UF’sMorrison, college tennis’ No. 2 rankedplayer, defeated Maimi’s Arpad Odry at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1, for the match’ssecond point. At No. 2 singles, UM’s Thompson fell to No. 23Justin O’Nealin a tight straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, to set up Adcock’s match clinchingvictory at No. 6.
