Hurricanes Head To Texas Relays

April 5, 2000

Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami women’s track and field team will compete against some of the nation’s top track and field talent, including two-time defending national champion Texas, at the 73rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays (April 6-8) in Austin, TX.

Leading the Hurricanes this weekend will be All-Americans Natalie Watson (Coral Springs) and Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA).

Watson, a junior, will lead the women’s 4×800-meter relay as it opens competition on Thursday. The Hurricanes will face a talented group of teams including Arkansas, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M.

Watson, who earned All-America honors following her sixth-place finish at the 2000 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, currently ranks seventh in the nation in the 800-meters.

Clarke, who earned All-America honors in the triple jump with her fifth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, will compete in Saturday’s triple jump competition against a formidable field including six of the top 13 ranked jumpers in the nation.

Clarke, a sophomore, currently ranks second in the nation in the triple jump after leaping a school record 13.53 meters (44-04.75) at the Miami/Gatorade Track and Field Classic on April 1. The mark automatically qualified her for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships (May 31-June 3) in Durham, NC.

Other Hurricanes scheduled to compete in Austin include freshman Jamillah Wade (400-hurdles), junior Antonnikka Owens (long jump, triple jump), sophomore Sharianne Lawson (100-hurdles), freshman Adrienne Moss (Shot Put), junior Wyllesheia Myrick (100-meters) and freshman Gina Harris (triple jump).
