UM Swimmers Win Five Events At Florida State

Tallahassee, FL (hurricanesports.com) – Junior All-American Miguel Velazquez (Mexico City, Mexico) won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, while sophomore Adrien Ferguson (Oklahoma City, OK) won the 100-yard freestyle and senior Christina Swanson (Bainbridge Island, VA) finished first in the 100-yard breast stroke to lead the University of Miami against Florida State in Tallahassee, FL.

Velazquez breezed through the diving competition recording a score of 305.50 in the 1-meter, to win by more than 28 points, and 327.10 points in the 3-meter to take that event by more than 32 points.

Ferguson registered a victory in the 100-yard dash in a time of 54.77 finishing ahead of freshman teammate Lindsy Fox (Lake Forest, IL) who took second in a time of 55.11.

Miami also took first and second in the 100-yard breast stroke as Swanson recorded a time of 1:09.56 to narrowly defeat junior teammate Colleen Adkins (Satellite Beach, FL) took second in a time of 1:10.10.

In addition to the individual victories, the Hurricanes recorded a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay as freshmen Andreanna Stoker (Bernyn, PA), Tara Erwin (Erving, NJ) and Kristen Lunak (Pembroke Pines, FL) joined junior Lindsay Knapp (Walnut Creek, CA) in taking first in a time of 3:52.14.

The Hurricanes return to action on October 25 against Florida Atlantic at 1 p.m. at the Whitten Student Union Pool in Coral Gables, FL.
