Hurricanes Fall to Gators in Final Home Meet of the Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – The University of Miami swimming and diving team fell to third ranked Florida, 125-103, in the Hurricanes’ final home dual meet of the season Saturday morning at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.
The Hurricanes recognized their five graduating seniors, Colleen Adkins, Mary Carriere, Katalin Ferenczi, Lindsay Knapp and Manoon Van Rooijen, in a brief ceremony prior the start of the meet.
UM opened competition with a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay where the team of Ashley Knapp, Adkins, Nancy Gajos and Taylor McFarlane touched with a time of 1:52.65.
Freshman Lauren Shue likewise placed in third after touching the wall at 10:23.73 in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Ferenczi notched her third best time this season in the 200-yard IM, placing 5th with a time of 2:08.21. Miami’s record holder in the 200-yard backstroke, followed her performance in the individual medley with a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, tallying a time of 2:07.62.
The Hurricanes swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with freshman Jenna Dreyer placing first with scores of 288.05 and 289.90, respectively. Florida’s Nicole Bolt finished second in the 1-meter board with a score of 260.90, followed by Miami sophomore Heather Bounds in third after tallying 220.87 points. Bounds placed second in the 3-meter with a score of 285.85 ahead of Bolt who tallied a score of 282.30.
The Hurricanes return to action when travel cross-town to face rival Florida International at the Bay Vista Aquatics Center Saturday, January 22nd, at 11:00 a.m.
