CANES TAKE ON HIGH POINT IN WEEKEND SERIES

CORAL GABLES–The second ranked Miami Hurricanes baseball team will take on the High Point Panthers in a three-game home series this weekend, February 4-6. Game times are 7pm for Friday and Saturday with Sunday’s contest beginning at 1pm.

The Hurricanes opened the 2005 season with a 7-0 victory over Florida International University Wednesday behind six shutout innings by junior right hander Cesar Carrillo.Carrillo, who went 12-0 last season, gave up just one hit and struck out six while not allowing a walk.

Commenting on Carrillo’s performance, UM Head Coach Jim Morris said, “I’ve come to expect that kind of performance from Cesar. He really hit his spots well tonight and worked all his pitches well.”

High Point finished the 2004 season with an 11-44 record has expectations of a much improved season under third-year head coach Sal Bando, Jr. “Pitching and defense are the names of the game, and it’s the backbone of any championship team,” Bando says.”I believe we are a lot stronger behind the plate and in the middle infield, and if healthy, we have more depth on the mound than any year I’ve been here.”

Tickets, priced at $7 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors, for the High Point series and future baseball contests can be purchased online at www.hurricanesports.com or by calling 1-800-CANE in Miami-Dade County or 1-800-GO-CANES outside of Miami-Dade.
