Hurricanes Roll Past Georgia Southern

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team won all six singles matches in straight sets while sweeping the doubles point en route to a 7-0 victory over Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The 48th-ranked Hurricanes (3-1) won at every singles position for the first time this season against the Eagles (1-5) and improve to 2-0 in home matches this year.
Led by the 43rd-ranked doubles tandem of sophomore Josh Cohen and junior Eric Hechtman, who won, 8-5, over GSU’s Vincent Patry and Danie Van Den Heever in the No. 1 slot, the Hurricanes took an early lead in the match, claiming the doubles point by winning at all three positions.
UM continued to overpower the Eagles heading into singles play beginning with a Cohen – ranked 26th nationally in singles – win at No. 1 over Patry in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).
Junior Tim Krebs, who boasts a national No. 123 ranking in singles, improved to 4-0 this season with a win over GSU’s Van Den Heever, 6-1, 7-5, in the No. 2 spot while Hechtman handled Lasha Janashia in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) at No. 3.
Junior John Hoyes downed the Eagles’ Charles-Henri Trottet, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 and freshman Vivek Subramanian and senior Luis Manrique each won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, to complete the UM sweep.
The Hurricanes will return to action Friday, February 18, hosting in-state foe Jacksonville at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at 6 p.m.
