Four Hurricane Divers Qualify for NCAA Championships

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>ATLANTA, Ga. – University of Miami divers Miguel Velazquez, Derek Starks, Jenna Dreyer and Heather Bounds were in a group of 24 divers, 11 women and 13 men, who officially qualified for the NCAA Championships on the final day of the NCAA Zone B Championships in the GeorgiaTechAquaticCenter Sunday afternoon. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Velazquez finished fourth in the 10-meter platform competition with a score of 523.25 to go along with his third place finish in the three-meter board Saturday. Starks finished in fourth on the platform after tallying a score of 497.00.
Bounds was the Hurricanes’ highest finisher of the day, when she tallied a score of 429.35 after nine dives on the platform for second place. Dreyer, who won the one-meter competition Saturday, finished in sixth place with a score of 382.40
The NCAA Women’s swimming and diving competition will be held at PurdueUniversity beginning March 17th through the 19th, while the men will travel to the University of Minnesota March 24th-26th for the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
