Four Hurricane Divers Qualify for NCAA Championships

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>ATLANTA, Ga. – University of Miami divers Miguel Velazquez, Derek Starks, Jenna Dreyer and Heather Bounds were in a group of 24 divers, 11 women and 13 men, who officially qualified for the NCAA Championships on the final day of the NCAA Zone B Championships in the GeorgiaTechAquaticCenter Sunday afternoon.  <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Velazquez finished fourth in the 10-meter platform competition with a score of 523.25 to go along with his third place finish in the three-meter board Saturday. Starks finished in fourth on the platform after tallying a score of 497.00.

Bounds was the Hurricanes’ highest finisher of the day, when she tallied a score of 429.35 after nine dives on the platform for second place. Dreyer, who won the one-meter competition Saturday, finished in sixth place with a score of 382.40

The NCAA Women’s swimming and diving competition will be held at PurdueUniversity beginning March 17^th through the 19^th, while the men will travel to the University of Minnesota March 24^th-26^th for the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
