Barrett Named ACC Track And Field Performer of the Week

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Kim Barrett (Miami Gulliver Prep) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Co-Performer of the Week.

Barrett, who shares the award this week with Georgia Tech’s Chaunte Howard, won the shot put and set a new school-record with a toss of 17.20 meters (56-05.25) at the Rice Bayou Classic this past weekend in Houston, Texas.

Barrett’s throw is the best in the nation this season and is an NCAA regional qualifier. Barrett, the NCAA Indoor National Champion in the shot put, dominated the field on Saturday winning by nearly three feet.

This marks the second time in three weeks a Hurricane has been honored as Women’s Track Performer of the Week. Junior Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) earned the award on March 21.
