Miami to Host No. 22 Wake Forest on Sunday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –
The University of Miami women’s soccer team will play host to No. 22 Wake Forest Sunday at 12 p.m. at Cobb Stadium.
The Hurricanes (8-3-1, 2-1-0 ACC) are fresh off a dramatic 2-0 win over No. 18 Duke on Thursday night. After a scoreless game for the first 88 minutes, senior Brittney Steinbruch broke Miami’s career scoring record with her team-leading sixth goal of the season with just 1:15 remaining in the game.
Soon after, Ali Brennan led a counter-attack and found speedster Tara Schwitter on the right side of the box and the freshman forward buried her shot into the back of the net as time expired.
Miami would never have had a chance to win the game if it wasn’t for the solid performance of Vikki Alonzo in goal. The junior from Carrollton, Texas notched her fifth shutout of the season and extended her career record to 22.
The win was the first over Duke in program history and it was the first win over a ranked opponent this season for the `Canes.
Miami only has one win in its six meetings with Wake Forst, but the last time the two teams met in Cobb Stadium in 2008, UM came away with a 1-0 victory over the then No. 19 Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest (9-4-0, 3-1-0) has played two straight overtime gaomes, defeating NC State 2-1 on Thursday and falling 1-0 to No. 14 Florida State on Sept. 30.
Rachel Nuzzolese and KatieStengel each have an impressive nine goal on the season to lead Wake Forest on offense. Goal keeper Aubrey Bledsoe sports a 1.01 goals against average and has registered two shutouts on the season.
Fans in attendance will have the chance to win several prizes, including a team autographed poster and soccer ball as well as one of many Miami Soccer t-shirts. Tickets can be purchased for $3 for children and $5 for adults at the Cobb Stadium gate one hour prior to kick-off. University of Miami students receive free admission with their `Cane Card.
However, fans that bring their Miami vs. Florida State football ticket to the gate will receive admission for only $1.
