Aug. 8, 2011

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Monday that the University of Miami will be featured in two of the conference’s five ESPN 3D broadcasts this season.
Miami’s games at Maryland (Sept. 5) and against Virginia (Oct. 27) were already slated for ESPN HD broadcasts, but both will now be shown in 3D as well.
The Hurricanes are the only ACC team scheduled to appear in 3D more than once.
The other two regular season games slated for ESPN 3D are NC State at Cincinnati (Sept. 22) and North Carolina at Virginia Tech (Nov. 17). The Seventh Annual Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game, which will be held this year at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium on Dec. 3 (8 pm, ET), is also scheduled to be televised on ESPN 3D. This marks the second-straight year the ACC title contest will be televised in both HD and 3D.
The Labor Day night game between the Canes and the Terps will mark the first ACC ESPN 3D broadcast of the fall and the debuts of new head coaches Al Golden and Randy Edsall.
The conference’s third broadcast will be the Thursday night affair between Miami and Virginia at Sun Life Stadium in late October.
Both of UM’s 3D games were already slated for 8 p.m. kickoffs.
Over the past two seasons, no fewer than nine games involving ACC teams have been televised in 3D. Last season, Miami defeated Clemson, 30-21, in its only appearance on ESPN 3D.
About ESPN 3D
ESPN was the first to announce in the United States an exclusive 3D network in January 2010 which was the culmination of more than three years of testing 3D television. ESPN has produced many 3D domestic telecasts in 2010 and 2011, including the BCS National Championship game, the Masters, X Games, multiple college football and basketball games, the State Farm Home Run Derby and more. ESPN has developed best practices for utilizing the technology in live game applications which have provided the ability to streamline workflow operations, adjust 3D camera positioning, perform transmission tests and gauge fan reaction to a 3D telecast versus a traditional telecast. In addition, ESPN utilizes cutting-edge technology located at the ESPN Innovation Lab in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World to continue to develop innovative production enhancements. ESPN 3D is available in the United States to more than 65 million households and has carriage agreements with Comcast, DIRECTV, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS. Sony was named the first official sponsor of the network in January 2010.
