Johansson Shines for Miami on Second Day in Atlanta

Atlanta, Ga. – Sofia Johansson won the 100-yard breaststroke while collecting an NCAA “B” cut time to highlight second day action for the University of Miami swimming & diving team at the Georgia Tech Fall Invite inside the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center on Saturday. The event runs through Sunday, Nov. 20.
Johansson, a junior from Sweden, continues to put up top performances for the Hurricanes in her time in Orange and Green. Johansson won the 100 breast race with a time of 1:01.90 and earned her first NCAA “B” cut time of the year as an individual.
The day began with the UMiami 200 medley relay team of Hannah Kling, Sofia Johansson, Lucy Worrall and Kelsi Hall turning in a third place time of 1:42.50. The time was good enough for an NCAA provisional qualification for the Hurricanes.
Junior Christine Anderson was third in the consolation finals of the 400 individual medley, as the Chattanooga, Tenn. native touched the wall at 4:22.69. Meanwhile, Worrall picked up an NCAA “B” cut time of 54.35 and a fourth place showing in the 100 butterfly. She would go on to finish third in the consolation finals of the 200 freestyle as she put up a time of 1:50.27 in the race.
“This has been an awesome meet so far,” expressed an excited Christie Shefchunas. “I’m thrilled that we’re getting NCAA `B’ cuts already with such little rest. The ladies have such awesome attitudes and we’re swimming great for this time of the season.”
Senior Dana Hatic finished sixth in the finals of the 100 breaststroke as she touched the wall at 1:03.74. Anderson was ninth at 1:04.31, while teammate Kelsi Hall was second in the consolation finals with a mark of 1:04.29.
In the diving well, Thea Vock finished fourth in the 3-meter event as she scored 335.60 points. Teammate Lindsay Lester was seventh with a score of 305.10.
Sam Dorman took a podium finish in third place of the men’s 1-meter springboard as he registered a score of 344.50.
After two days of action, Miami sits in fifth place with a score of 404.5 after 28 completed events.
