Miami Set to Host Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams open the outdoor season Friday and Saturday March 16-17 with the first of two meets at Cobb Stadium this season.  The canes will welcome Albany, Bethune-Cookman, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida Memorial, Franklin & Marshall, Johnson & Wales, NYU, Nova Southeastern, Toronto, Virginia Tech and Warner in the opening contest.

Indoor All-ACC performers Innocent Jacob and Miranda Wilson will open the outdoor season looking to continue their indoor success. Jacob will compete in the long jump and Wilson will compete alongside senior Ashley Holmes in the discus and hammer throws.

Sophomore Thandi Stewart will make her return to the track in the 800 meters and junior transfer Samantha Williams will compete in the long jump.

School record holder in the one-mile Connor Adams will make his outdoor debut in the 1,500 meters.

A majority of the men’s team will be competing in the 400 meters, including seniors Brian Laskowski, Evan Hadrick, David Kuhrt and Austin Rector, sophomore Bassim El-Sabawi and freshman Darrell Butler.

Starting off the action on Friday for the Canes will be Rachel Dupree in the heptathlon at 9:30 a.m. The men’s and women’s 5,000 meters will also be contested on Friday, starting with the men at 7 p.m. Luke Fontaine and JaCee Jarnagin will toe the line for the men, as the women will be represented by sophomores Lindsi Arrington and Brooke Dovell and senior Casey Crist.
