CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 54 University of Miami men’s tennis team will host the No. 33 ranked NC State team this Fri., March 23. The match between the Hurricanes and Wolfpack will begin at 2 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Miami (7-5, 0-3) is looking to earn their second win in a row on this three-match homestand. The Hurricanes earned a hard-fought 5-2 victory over No. 61 Alabama last Saturday.

The Canes were led by sophomores Gabriel Flores and Diego Soto as each earned two victories on the day. The pair earned the team’s lone doubles victory as they defeated Alabama’s Vikram Reddy and Carlos Taborga 8-7. Soto made quick work of his singles match, taking down David Vieyra in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3. Flores, in the No. 1 position, needed three sets to beat Jarryd Botha 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3.

Wilfredo Gonzalez had to come back from a first set loss in his singles match to defeat Danill Proskura 3-6, 7-6 and 6-2. Henrique Tsukamoto and Victor Mauz also earned victories against Alabama from the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, respectively.

NC State (14-4, 0-2) comes to Coral Gables having lost their last two matches, both against ACC opponents. They fell to No. 6 Duke in a 4-3 loss before losing, 5-2, to No. 20 UNC in their most recent match.

The Wolfpack are led by senior standout Jaime Pulgar, who is currently ranked No. 66 in the nation in singles. He has a record of 13-2 from the No. 1 position and recently defeated UNC’s No. 34 ranked Jose Hernandez.

Following Friday’s match, The Hurricanes will host Wake Forest on Sun., March 25 at 12 p.m. before traveling north to take on Boston College on Fri., March 30 at 6 p.m.
