Laurente's Run Ends at Amelia Island

AMELIAISLAND, Fla. – After a run thatincluded five straight victories, Miami’s Kelsey Laurente fell at the AmeliaIsland Women’s Tennis Championships Friday at the Omni Amelia IslandPlantation.

The freshman took Japan’s Mari Asaka to threesets but came up just shot, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4.

“It was an impressive tournament for Kelsey,”assistant women’s tennis coach Alex Santos said. “Today she played anothergreat match. We knew the talent that she had, so what Kelsey did throughout thetournament was not surprising to us.

“If she is able to maintain the intensity shehad over the past seven days, it will be exciting to see her grow and developto phenomenal levels.”

Up next for the Hurricanes will be the Riviera/ITAWomen’s All-American Championships, in which both Lina Lileikite and MelissaBolivar will compete, beginning Monday, Oct. 1.
