Paul Dee to be Honored by Coral Gables

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Paul Dee, who served in key roles for more than 30 years at the University of Miami before passing away in May, is one of five community leaders to be honored for their contributions to Coral Gables.

Dee, who earned his master’s degree in education in 1973 and juris doctorate degree in 1977, was a member of the School of Education and Sport Sciences faculty and an adjunct professor at the School of Law, after having served the University in several roles. He served as Director of Athletics from 1993-2008. Prior to that, he was Vice President and General Counsel since 1981. He was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame and was a member of the Iron Arrow Society, UM’s most prestigious honor.

In addition to the Coral Gables Community Foundation’s Sports/Entertainment Award posthumously honoring Dee, the Foundation’s Community Award will bepresented to former CoralGables City Commissioner Wayne “Chip” Withers, the Legacy Awardto respected Coral Gables Philanthropist RobertJ. Fewell, the Culture Award to Coral Gables Art Cinema creatorSteven H. Krams, and the Education Award to FIU information technology leader Dr. Joyce Elam.

The Coral Gables Community Foundation’s annual fundraising gala will be held at the Coral Gables Country Club on Saturday, October 13 at 7 p.m. The Coral Gables Community Foundation has beenserving the Coral Gables community for more than 20 years and has awardednearly $4 million to a variety of charitable causes to continue to enhance thequality of life for all people in Coral Gables.
