@CanesRowing Tackles Head of the Indian Creek
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team excelled Sunday at the 22nd Annual Head of the Indian Creek.
The Hurricanes had six entries in the Head of the Indian Creek, four 4V boats and two novice 8 boats. Sunday’s Head of the Indian Creek was the second time Miami competed on its home course in the 2014-15 season. The Head of the Indian Creek is a 4,450 meter (2.7 miles) head race. All boats started sequentially and raced against the clock.
Miami’s “The U” boat was the top finisher in the 4+ race with a time of 17:04. The “Green” boat finished third with a time of 17:42, while “White” placed fifth (18:38) and “Orange” finished sixth (19:08).
In the novice division, 18 newcomers participated in their first official race as Hurricanes. The “Connie Nickel” boat had the best time in its race, finishing in 20:26, while “Black Beauty” crossed the finish line in 23:01.
Following Sunday’s racing, the Hurricanes will prepare for their final two competitions of the fall season: the Head of the Charles and Head of the Hooch.
The Canes will have two entries in the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. Miami has one entry in the Championship four event and one in the Club four event scheduled for October 18-19.
Miami will close out its fall season at the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. A year ago, the Canes earned four Top 10 finishes including two wins, a second place finish and an eighth place finish. They will look to improve on their previous success in this year’s Head of the Hooch, scheduled for November 1-2.
