@CanesRowing Ready for Head of the Charles
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Miami rowing program will compete in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend.
The Head of the Charles Regatta is widely acclaimed as the world’s largest two-day rowing event, drawing over 9,000 athletes around the world to compete in 55 different race events. This event will present a new challenge, as the team attempts to navigate foreign waters for the first time this season.
“The team is excited to participate in the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “It is an American rowing classic and it’s an honor to be in the event. It has been a while since UM was represented in Boston and all the athletes are eager to step up to the challenge of the Charles River and the national rowing scene.”
The Hurricanes will feature two entries in this renowned race. Miami has one entry in in the Club 4+ event on Saturday at 1:38 p.m., and one in the Championship 4+ event on Sunday beginning at 1:51 p.m.
Boats racing in the Head of the Charles will compete against one another and the clock, which will start sequentially, approximately 15 seconds apart.

Following the Head of the Charles, Miami will close out its fall season at the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. A year ago, the Canes earned four Top 10 finishes including two wins, a second place finish and an eighth place finish. They will look to improve on their previous success in this year’s Head of the Hooch, scheduled for November 1-2.
