MTen Opens Season At Home Against FAU and UCF
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will open the 2015 spring season January 18 against Florida Atlantic at 2 p.m. and will face No. 70 Central Florida the following day on January 19 at 12 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Attendance is free to the matches.
The Canes and the Owls also opened last spring season in Coral Gables with the Canes coming up with a resounding 7-0 victory. The Canes hold a 20-1 all-time record against FAU. Miami also has a commanding lead against the Knights with an all-time record of 15-1.
The Hurricanes who are currently ranked No. 52 in the preseason ITA polls, graduated a large portion of the team entering the 2014-2015 season. Miami’s young team includes seven freshmen, one sophomore and two seniors.
Seniors Wilfredo Gonzalez and Henrique Tsukamoto will lead the group and will look to freshman Piotr Lomacki who is ranked No. 56 in the first ITA singles rankings, to continue his strong form from the fall season.
Lone sophomore Bernard Tefel, a local Miami native, will also be looked upon to lead the young and talented freshman group of Nile Clark, Kevin Bondar, Alexander Fahnehjelm, Niclas Genovese, Andrew Harrington, and Christian Langmo.
The team will face many talented teams throughout the 2015 campaign. The Canes are scheduled to play 16 teams that are currently ranked in the top 75 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.
After the two home matches the Canes will travel to Waco, Texas, for the ITA Kickoff Weekend and will face No. 46 Drake on Jan. 24 and will either face No. 6 Baylor or No. 62 Tulane on Jan. 25.
