Collins, Thompson Earn Preseason Recognition
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore catcher Zack Collins and junior first baseman David Thompson were among those selected as2015 Baseball America Preseason All-Americans, the publication announced Monday.
Collins, who was named 2014 National Freshman of the Year by Baseball America, was selected to the first team. Thompson, who missed 32 games last year but rebounded with a summer selection to the Cape Cod League All-Star Game, was named to the second team.
The pair of selections continued an impressive stretch of preseason honors for the Hurricanes. Collins has already earned Preseason All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game, while relief pitcher Bryan Garcia (Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game) and lefthander Andrew Suarez (Collegiate Baseball) were also recognized earlier this spring.
The honor was the first of the spring for Thompson, who was named a Freshman All-America by Perfect Game in 2013.
The Hurricanes will open the season with the annual First Pitch Banquet, slated for Feb. 5 at the Marriott Miami Dadeland – click HERE for more information. Miami will host its annual FanFest & Alumni Game at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field on Feb. 7, beginning at 4 p.m. Admission to FanFest is free.
