Lohan, Wagner to Compete at National Indoors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Sophomore Sinead Lohan and senior Stephanie Wagner of the University of Miami women’s tennis team are set to take part in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships (NIIC) this weekend.

Held Thursday through Sunday at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., the prestigious event has a 32-player singles draw featuring many of the country’s elite players.

Lohan, ranked No. 13 in the nation, earned an automatic berth into the field by reaching the final of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships at the beginning of October. She was the first Hurricane to advance to the final of the elite event.

Sixth-ranked Wagner received an at-large bid to the tournament, becoming eligible for that spot by reaching the championship of the USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals the final weekend of October. The Amberg, Germany native downed two top-10 opponents in last year’s NIIC to reach the semifinals.

Lohan is seeded fifth in the singles main draw, while Wagner earned the eighth seed. Miami and fellow ACC school Virginia are the only schools with multiple seeded players and five of the eight players to earn a seed come from the ACC.

Both Hurricanes will have their opening match Thursday at 9 a.m., with Lohan set to face Kansas’ Anastasiya Rychagova and Wagner scheduled to meet Auburn’s Andie Dikosavljevic.

Additional information on the NIIC can be found on the tournament homepage HERE and live scoring will be available HERE.
