Over 100 Canes Named to ACC Academic Honor Roll
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Over 100 student-athletes from the University of Miami were named to the 60th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll, announced Thursday.
The Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year. The conference recognized a record 4,378 student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year.
ACC Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year Daniela Darquea headlines the Hurricanes’ contingent, earning her third ACC Academic Honor Roll appearance. Darquea was Miami’s first ACC Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year since the award was established in September 2007. The junior, who is pursuing an exercise physiology degree with a minor in sports medicine, has been named to the Miami Athletic Director’s Honor Roll six times and has earned “Book Buster” citation from the university six times, as well. She has been named to the Dean’s List at the end of five semesters and has earned Provost Honor Roll status (3.75 GPA or higher) three times.
Women’s diver Kara McCormack and soccer player Erin McGovern each earned their fifth ACC Academic Honor Roll award, leading all Miami honorees.
The Hurricanes had 18 student-athletes earn their fourth ACC Academic Honor Roll distinction: Ava Ambrose (soccer), Sarah Aschebrock (rowing), Dakota Dailey-Harris (track and field), Caitilin Donahoe (volleyball), My Fridell (swimming and diving), Jamika Glades (track and field), Alejandra Gonzalez (swimming and diving), Laura Hendee (golf), Caitlin Lowe (rowing), Kevin Marsh (track and field), Shannon McCarthy (soccer), Christina Ocampo (golf), Austin Pfenninger (football), Amy Schmidt (soccer), Stephanie Wagner (tennis), Allison Whitty (rowing), Kelly Williamson (track) and Thomas Woodrey (baseball).
