Rutgers at Miami - Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. on ESPNU

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team will host Rutgers University on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. on ESPNU as part of the 18th annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge, a 14-team event to be played on campus sites Nov. 28-30.

The event – in which each conference hosts seven games – matches all 14 Big Ten teams against all but one ACC member. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will televise the 14 games of the 18th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge to close out November.

Fourteen teams competed in the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship: NCAA runner-up North Carolina; Final Four team Syracuse; Elite Eight teams Notre Dame and Virginia; Sweet 16 teams Duke, Indiana, Maryland, Miami and Wisconsin, as well as early-round participants Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh and Purdue.

Miami is one of six teams ranked in the top 15 of the 2016 ESPN Recruiting Nation Class Rankings. Duke fields the No. 2-ranked incoming class, Michigan State stands at No. 3, Virginia is No. 8 and Florida State, North Carolina and Miami stand at No. 12, 13 and 14, respectively.

The Hurricanes are 9-5 against Rutgers, including a 5-0 mark at home and a 1-0 record under the guidance of Coach Jim Larrañaga. Miami last defeated the Scarlet Knights on Nov. 15, 2011, in Coach L’s second game at The U. In that game, Durand Scott and Malcolm Grant each scored 19 points to lead Miami past Rutgers, 72-57, in the BankUnited Center.

Miami is 4-5 overall in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, with a 1-4 mark on the road and a 3-1 record at home. The Canes have defeated a pair of ranked teams during Larrañaga’s tenure, downing No. 13 Michigan State, 67-59, in 2012 and No. 24 Illinois, 70-61, in 2013.

The Big Ten captured the Commissioner’s Cup in 2015 and 2014, winning eight of the 14 matchups both years. The two conferences split the previous two events, winning six Challenge games each in 2012 and 2013. The ACC won the first 10 Challenges (1999-2008), while the Big Ten won the next three (2009-2011). In the event of a tie, the Commissioner’s Cup remains with the conference that won the previous year. The ACC holds the 10-5-2 winning record in the previous 17 years.
