The Matchup Between Miami and Stanford
The last meeting between the two teams came on April 2, 2015 in the NIT Final when Stanford narrowly edged Miami, 66-64, in overtime.
Davon Reed was an all-around star against the Cardinal. The Ewing, N.J., native finished with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks to cap off an excellent sophomore year.
Jim Larrañaga will go up against Stanford’s first-year head coach, Jerod Haase, who arrived after four seasons at UAB. This will be the first meeting between the two as head coaches.
Since 2012, the Canes are 11-3 in regular season tournaments.
This will be Miami’s fourth meeting with Stanford all-time and this will be the third game taking place on a neutral court.

The Last Time Out Against Stanford
Junior Sheldon McClellan led the Hurricanes with 17 points in Miami’s 66-64 overtime loss to Stanford in the NIT Championship game on April 2, 2015.
Then-sophomore Davon Reed had 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in 40 minutes. He was named to the NIT All-Tournament Team for his two-game performance at Madison Square Garden. Then-freshman Ja’Quan Newton made his third-career start, recording 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block in 31 minutes.

Milestones for the Canes
1,000 Games – Coach Larrañaga opened the 2016-17 season just 21 shy of 1,000 career games coached. Miami’s 21st game of the season is vs. Florida State on Feb. 1. He has coached 53 games at American International, 314 at Bowling Green, 437 at Geoge Mason and now 177 at Miami.
1,000 Program Wins – The University of Miami men’s basketball program has won 993 of its 1,720 games.
600 Victories – Coach Larrañaga is just nine wins shy of 600 career victories. With 600 wins, he will be one of five ACC coaches with 600 victories, and the other four men are in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
100 Blocks – Redshirt senior Kamari Murphy has recorded 92 career blocks, with 61 at Oklahoma State and 31 at Miami.
1,000 Points – Senior Davon Reed has scored 888 points in 101 career games at The U.
100 Games – Seniors Kamari Murphy and Davon Reed each played in their 100th career game at North Florida on Nov. 16, 2016. Murphy, a redshirt senior, played in 66 games at Oklahoma State before coming to Miami as a junior. All of Reed’s games played are at UM.

Canes Producing Balanced Scoring Attack
In three straight games, Miami has had five players score 10-plus points and three players – Ja’Quan Newton, Dewan Huell and DJ Vasiljevic – have scored 10-or-more in each game. Eight of nine eligible scholarship players have scored in double digits at least once, with Rodney Miller’s five points vs. WCU being his season high. Four guys have scored at least 15 points: Newton (18 and 16), Davon Reed (17), Bruce Brown (15) and Huell (15).

Freshmen Scoring While Upperclassmen Fill up the Stat Sheet
Miami’s four freshmen are scoring 56.2 percent of Miami’s points, but the Canes’ five upperclassmen are contributing 75.9 percent of steals, 69.2 percent of assists, 65.2 percent of rebounds and 60.0 percent of blocks.

Freshmen Showing Consistent Performances
In all three games, rookie DJ Vasiljevic has knocked down a trio of shots from long range and hit four total field goals. Freshman Dewan Huell is perfect at the free throw line (7-7) and has at least 10 points in each outing (13, 15 and 11).

Miami Defense is Stingy in the First Half
The Hurricanes have held their first two opponents to 61 total first-half points (20.3 ppg) through three games, and forced opponents to shoot just 27.8 percent (25-90) from the field and 15.8 percent (6-38) from three. Miami has also forced opponents to cough up the rock, averaging 8.7 forced turnovers in the first stanza.

Recapping Miami at Puerto Rico Last Season
Miami defeated Mississippi State, 105-79, then downed No. 16 Utah, 90-66, and dropped No. 22/20 Butler, 85-75, to win the 2015 Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The Canes outscored their opponents by 20.0 points per game, and outrebounded opponents by 8.7 rebounds per game. Miami also won the event in 2007-08. Senior guard Angel Rodriguez was named the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Most Valuable Player. He averaged 13.7 points and 4.0 assists, including 19 points in the championship game. The native of Cupey, P.R., just 20 minutes from San Juan, was greeted by many friends and family at each game. Sheldon McClellan, Rodriguez and Tonye Jekiri were named to the Puerto Rico Tip-Off All Tournament Team.
