Four-Game Homestand Begins Tuesday with FGCU

CANES OPEN HOME STRETCH WITH FGCU

• Miami will wrap up the regular season with a four-game homestand beginning Tuesday, May 16 against FGCU at 7 p.m. at Mark Light Field (ACC Network Extra, WVUM 90.5 FM)

• The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with the Eagles by a commanding 16-4 margin, but dropped the first two games to FGCU this year; Miami fell 3-0 in Fort Myers on March 29 and dropped a 5-4 decision at The Light on April 12.

• Miami will end its regular season with a three-game series against Virginia Tech (May 18-20) before traveling to Louisville, Ky., for the 2017 ACC Baseball Championship (May 23-28).

Freshman RHP Evan McKendry (3-2, 3.68 ERA) will oppose FGCU RHP Peyton Gray (3-2, 4.71 ERA) Wednesday night.

WEEKEND REWIND: MIAMI FALLS TO #10 UVA

• For the first time since March 30, the Hurricanes dropped a weekend series, falling in two of three games in Charlottesville, Va., to homestanding No. 10 Virginia.

• Junior lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt twirled a gem in the first game of a doubleheader on May 13, tossing the first complete game by a Hurricane since May 2015 to lead Miami to a 5-1 win.

• Bargfeldt allowed just three hits and one run, needing 107 pitches to get through the best start of his Hurricanes career. He struck out six batters and walked one, facing just three batters over the minimum against the top-ranked offense in the ACC.

• Miami took a 4-0 lead in Game 2 of the doubleheader, but allowed eight runs in a second inning that ultimately doomed them in a 13-6 loss to set up a rubber match.

• Trailing for most of the game Sunday, the Hurricanes tied the game 3-3 in the eighth but allowed four runs in the home half of the inning, and fell 7-4 to drop the series.

HEATING UP: RUIZ, CHESTER WITH BIG WEEKS

• Senior Johnny Ruiz was Miami’s top performer at the plate last week, hitting .538 (7-for-13), reaching base at a .684 clip and slugging .692. Ruiz batted .556 in three games at No. 10 Virginia.

• Junior Carl Chester, hitting leadoff for the first time since a February series at Florida, batted .429 in the team’s series against the Cavaliers. He led the team with six hits and totaled two doubles, three RBI and a .467 on-base percentage.

• Miami lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt has been the most consistent weekend starter for the Canes. In nine ACC starts, Bargfeldt is 5-2 with a 1.68 ERA. He is holding ACC opponents to a .173 average.

UNC SNAPS STREAK OF UM COASTAL CROWNS

• Miami won its third straight ACC Coastal Division title in 2016, posting a 21-7 record in ACC play to earn the division crown.

• North Carolina clinched the 2017 Coastal Division crown this past weekend in a series against Virginia Tech (May 12-14), snapping Miami’s impressive streak.

• Miami has won the ACC Regular Season Championship three times, most recently in 2016 when the Canes finished 21-7.

• Since the beginning of the 2014 season, Miami has won 28 of its past 39 ACC series. The Hurricanes went 8-2 in ACC series in 2014, 7-3 in 2015, 9-1 in 2016 and are 4-4-1 in 2017.
