ProCanes Report: Graham Records 60th Career TD

If there was any doubt about which school has deservedly earned the title of #TightEndU, Week 5 NFL action helped to dispel that notion once again. Seattle Seahawks veteran Jimmy Graham reached a milestone by hauling in his 60th career touchdown, while Cleveland Browns rookie David Njoku provided a glimpse into his future potential with a gorgeous touchdown catch of his own. With Carolina Panthers Pro Bowler Greg Olsen sidelined, it was Graham and Njoku who stole the show this weekend.
Duke Johnson, Jr. (Cleveland Browns) – 83 all-purpose yards, 41-yard touchdown catch
One of the most dynamic all-purpose backs in the NFL, Duke Johnson, Jr. continues to shine in his third professional season with the Browns, and did so again Sunday in a disappointing loss to the Jets. Johnson rushed the ball six times – more than in any other game this season – but he did the most damage showcasing his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Johnson had three catches for 63 yards, including an impressive 41-yard touchdown reception. The fourth quarter catch was the longest since his rookie season and helped Cleveland cut into the Jets’ lead. It was his third career touchdown catch and first since 2015.
Frank Gore (Indianapolis Colts) – 48 rushing yards, 38 receiving yards
What else can possibly be said about the brilliance of Frank Gore, who moved past NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson into seventh place in all-time rushing yards in NFL history Sunday in an overtime win over San Francisco? Gore, who carried 14 times for 48 yards in the win, now has 13,304 rushing yards and could potentially end the season in fifth place in all-time yards. Gore, whose 16,820 career all-purpose yards are the 17th most in league history, has totaled 239 rushing yards this season for Indianapolis and is just 380 rushing yards shy of LaDainian Tomlinson, who currently sits in fifth.
David Njoku (Cleveland Browns) – 3 catches, 48 yards, 21-yard touchdown
Cleveland rookie tight end David Njoku has drawn impressive reviews in his first professional season, and he did nothing to slow his growing reputation in a loss to the New York Jets Sunday. Njoku put the Browns ahead with an eye-popping one-handed catch in the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown, a prominent display of the freakish athletic ability that led to his selection as the 21st pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Njoku has 12 catches for 112 yards and three touchdowns through the first five games of his rookie season and looks on his way to becoming the next “great one” from #TightEndU.
Jimmy Graham (Seattle Seahawks) – six catches, 37 yards, one touchdown
No player in Sunday’s game between Seattle and Los Angeles had more receptions than Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham, who caught six balls from quarterback Russell Wilson in a 16-10 win. One of them came on a six-yard pass for a touchdown, Graham’s first of the season and 60th of his career. Now in his third season with the Seahawks, Graham has compiled impressive career totals of 520 catches for 6,459 yards across eight NFL seasons.
