MBB Earns No. 3 Seed in ACC Tournament

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami men’s basketball team claimed the No. 3 seed in the 2018 New York Life ACC Tournament, which runs Tuesday through Saturday (March 6-10) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
 
The Hurricanes earned a double bye and start play at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday. No. 11 seed Syracuse plays No. 14 seed Wake Forest at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with the winner taking on No. 6 seed North Carolina at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday. The winner of the Wednesday contest advances to play Miami in the quarterfinals.
 
ESPN and the ACC Network have the television broadcast Thursday, while WQAM 590-AM has the local radio broadcast of every Miami postseason game.

Miami enters postseason play with a 22-8 record, including an 11-7 mark in conference play. The Hurricanes finished in a four-way tie for third place in the conference standings with Clemson, NC State and North Carolina. Miami won the tiebreaker with the other three teams based on its 2-1 record amongst the group of 11-7 teams.
 
The Hurricanes wrapped up the regular season Saturday with their fourth straight victory, a 69-68 triumph over Virginia Tech. Each of Miami’s four wins in the streak have come down to the final possession and been decided by three points or fewer. The four-game winning streak with all games determined by three points or fewer matches an ACC record, set by NC State in 1957 and Duke in 1976 and 1984.
 
Miami is 14-12 all-time in the ACC Tournament, including an 8-5 mark under Jim Larrañaga. The Hurricanes are the tournament’s No. 3 seed for the second time in three seasons and have claimed a top-3 seed for the third time in Larrañaga’s seven-year tenure.
