After Delay, Canes Finally In Action in San Diego

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami women’s golf team, coming off an heartbreaking impressive second place finish at the Hurricane Invitational, will storm ahead to the The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn event, Monday and Tuesday (March 18-20) at the Championship Golf Course at Ranch Bernardo Inn Golf Resort and Spa in San Diego, Calif.

The second annual event features 16 teams, including host No. 38 San Diego State, No. 8 Arizona State, No. 6 Arizona, No. 10 California, No. 64 Coastal Carolina, No. 34 Denver, No. 70 Long Beach State, No. 61 Miami, No. 45 New Mexico, No.  19 Pepperdine, No. 3 Southern California, No. 25 Texas, No. 22 Texas A&M, No. 37 Tulane, No. 50 UNLV and No. 20 Washington.

The tournamnet was schedule to take place over three days and 54 holes, but was cut short due to poor course conditinos due to inclement weather.  The teams will play 18 holes of action begins Monday and Tuesday on the par 72, 6,267-yard course.

The Canes, under second-year head coach Patti Rizzo, hope to continue their impressive play of late.  Prior to finishing second in the Hurricane Invite, UM carded its best three round stroke average at the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge.

In the line-up for the Hurricanes will be freshmen Leticia Ras-Anderica, who leads the team with a stroke average of 74.81 and is only one of five freshmen in the ACC top 20. Joining her in San Diego will be freshman Rika Park and sophomore Carina Cuculiza who both finished in the top 10 at the Hurricane Invitational. Freshmen Shannon Pak and senior Jennifer Hirano round out the starting five.
