Golf Heads West For Betsy Rawls Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas – For their final tournament of the fall season, the University of Miami’s golf team travels to Texas this weekend to compete in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.
The tournament is hosted by the University of Texas and will take place at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
Miami is looking to rebound from a 13th-place finish at last week’s Windy City Collegiate Classic. The Hurricanes began the tournament in the lead after round one, but found it difficult to recapture their first-place strokes in the following two rounds.
Head coach Patti Rizzo said the team needs to do a better job responding to adversity, but they are still excited to compete in Austin.
The Hurricanes will be part of a 15-team field, consisting of 10 teams ranked in Golf Week’s top 100. Four of those can be found in the top 50: No. 16 UNLV, No. 17 San Diego State, No. 40 Texas and No. 45 Miami.
Round one play begins on Sunday morning at 8:15 a.m. Junior Christina Ocampo will tee off for the Canes first at 9:45 a.m.
Following Ocampo are sophomore Delfina Acosta, senior Leticia Ras-Anderica, junior Kailey Walsh and sophomore Daniela Darquea.
Darquea is coming off a ninth-place finish at the Windy City Classic. It was her first top-10 finish of the season and sixth of her career.
Iowa State and Tulane will be paired with the Hurricanes in round one.
In an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer research, round two is designated as a “Pink Out.” All teams, players and coaches are encouraged to wear pink.
Final round play will begin Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m.
