Canes Golf Heads West For Fall Finale

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team will take part in its final tournament of the fall, as it travels to Austin, Texas to compete in the 2017 Betsy Rawls Invitational, beginning Monday. This year’s event will be held at the par 72, 6,278-yard University of Texas Golf Club.
 
THE BASICS
-Tee times will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
-Each day will feature a shotgun start.
-The tournament will feature a 54-hole event. Monday’s round will consist of 36 holes. The final round on Tuesday will feature 18 holes.
-The format will be five players in the starting lineup for each team, with the top four scores counting toward the team total.
-Live scoring for the tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.
 
A COMPETITIVE FIELD
The Betsy Rawls Invitational is widely regarded as one of the most competitive tournaments in all of college golf. The 44th edition of this year’s event will once again feature a strong field.
 
The 15-school field includes seven teams in the top-30 of Golfweek’s preseason rankings. Miami, which was tabbed No. 27, will be competing against the following teams.
 
No. 4 Arizona State, Baylor, No. 23 Clemson, No. 7 Furman, Houston, No. 21 Kent State, LSU, No. 20 Oklahoma, San Diego State, SMU, No. 11 Texas, Texas State, No. 19 Texas Tech, UNLV.

LAST TIME OUT: WEBER SHINES ONCE AGAIN
For the 13th time in her collegiate career, junior golfer Dewi Weber posted a top-10 finish, tying for seventh at the 2017 ANNIKA Intercollegiate on Oct. 3.?Weber finished the tournament with a third-round score of one-under-par (76-66-71=213). The Netherlands native posted five birdies on the afternoon and finished the tournament with 14 birdies.
 
As a team, Miami tied for eighth, thanks to a final-round score of 297. The Hurricanes finished with a three-round tally of 889.
 
RECAPPING LAST YEAR’S BETSY RAWLS INVITATIONAL
Dewi Weber scored her second individual medalist honor of her career at last year’s Betsy Rawls Invitational. Weber finished the tournament with a three-round total of 201, posting rounds of 64, 65 and 72. Her opening round 64 was the lowest round in tournament history.
 
As a team, Miami took second with a three-round total of 863, finishing just one-stroke behind tournament champion Kent State.
 
THE WORD ON THE CANES
-Miami will tee it up for the third and final time this fall. 
-Miami enters the Betsy Rawls Invitational after it tied for eighth at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate – a field that included nine teams in the top 13 of Golfweek’s preseason rankings.
-The Hurricanes opened the year by tying for 10th at the 2017 Schooner Fall Classic to open the year.
-The Hurricanes enter the 2017-18 season in the hopes of earning a third-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship.
-Miami earned a trip to the NCAA Championship for the 25th time in program history in 2017.
-The Hurricanes tied for 16th at the 2017 NCAA Championship. Miami’s finish in the NCAA Championship was its 10th top-20 finish in tournament history. The Hurricanes’ finish also was their best since the 1992 appearance when they placed 10th.
-Miami returns three starters from last year’s NCAA lineup, including Dewi Weber, Renate Grimstad, and Macarena Aguilera.
-Hurricane freshmen Kristyna Frydlova and Roos Haarman made their respective collegiate debuts at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. 
 
THE LINEUP
Macarena Aguilera
-Aguilera finished the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in 45th place.
-Logged her first career hole-in-one at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. 
-Posted a second-round 70 at the Schooner Fall Classic – her second lowest round of her collegiate career.
-Competed in 10 events during her freshman season in 2016-17.
-Her best finish of the year came at the Florida Challenge as she tied for 24th.
-Saw action at the 2017 ACC, NCAA Regional and NCAA Championship events. 
 
Kristyna Frydlova
-Placed 48th last week at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
-Tied for 26th at the Schooner Fall Classic thanks to a pair of rounds fewer than 70.
-Made her collegiate debut on Sept. at the Schooner Fall Classic.
-Arrives in Miami with an extensive amount of international experience.
-Captured the 2013 and 2015 Czech International Under 18 Championships.
-One of three freshmen on this year’s team.
 
Renate Grimstad
-Posted her fourth top-15 finish of her career last week at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
-Tied for 63rd in her first tournament of the year at the Schooner Fall Classic on Sept. 25.
-Saw action in 12 events during her freshman season.
-Posted a scoring average of 74.66 in 35 rounds during the 2016-17 season.
-Notched three top 10 performances a year ago, including an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Regional.
-Her best finish of 2016-17 came at the UCF Challenge, as she tied for third.
 
Roos Haarman
-Finished in 60th place last week at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
-Made her collegiate debut at the Schooner Fall Classic on Sept. 23.
-Captured the 2016 Dutch National Open Championship.
-Captured her first amateur championship crown during the 2014 Faldo Series.
-One of three freshmen on this year’s team.
 
Dewi Weber
-Will look to defend her 2016 Betsy Rawls Individual crown.
-Captured medalist honors at the 2016 Betsy Rawls Invitational with a three-round total of 201, posting rounds of 64-65-72=201.
-Tied for seventh last week at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
-Tied for fourth to open the year at the Schooner Fall Classic on Sept. 25.
-Has posted 20 rounds of 70-or-fewer.
-Selected as a 2017 Golfweek Preseason All-American.
